The second of ten children, Eduardo Bonnin Aguiló was born in Palma de Mallorca on May 4, 1917, to D. Fernado Bonnin Piña and Da Mercedes Aguiló Forteza.
He first studied with Augustinian Priests at the school “Escuela Francesa” in LaSalle College. In addition, his parents hired professors to teach him at home.
In 1936, he began his obligatory military service, far from home, where he came into direct contact with irreligious behaviors and attitudes. (Those far away from God.)
During that period, Eduardo read an address given by Pope Pius XII, dated February 6, 1940. The Holy Father was calling for different ways to bring the “far away” to know the love of God. From this, Eduardo developed his guiding principles of the Love of God, Friendship, and the Person, especially the far away.
In 1943 he attended training for Pilgrim Leaders. He recognized that it was not only necessary to prepare leaders to go on the Pilgrimage to Santiago, but for living one’s everyday normal life. This realization resulted in the presentation of his talk, “The Study of the Environments.”
From there, he developed a Method that would serve to change the hearts and lives of the “far away” (secularized) people to hearts and lives that love God and serve God where they live, work, and recreate.
Eduardo devoted his entire life to bringing others close to God through the Cursillo Movement. He traveled around the world for this cause. After an entire life dedicated to love of God and of people, he would say that he was always content, but not satisfied.
Eduardo went home to God on February 6, 2008. On his tombstone are the words he always applied to himself, “An Apprentice Christian.”

The process for Eduardo’s Beatification and Canonization began in Mallorca, Spain on February 5, 2015.
Unless waived, a five year waiting period is observed before the bishop of the diocese where the person died can open an investigation into the life of the individual. This investigation determines if the individual lived with sufficient holiness and virtue.
If sufficient evidence is found, the bishop asks the Congregation for the Cause of Saints for permission to open the case. Once the case is accepted for consideration, the individual can be called a “Servant of God.”
Eduardo is recognized as a Servant of God, and an official prayer has been created which may be used when seeking his intercession in special prayer requests. To be beatified and recognized as Blessed, a miracle through Eduardo’s intercession is required.
The apostolic process is advancing. It consists of studying the cause, collecting and reviewing the evidence, and investigating any alleged miracles. When these actions are completed and verified, Eduardo’s cause will be forwarded to the Pope for his final approval.
